Music Mix: MIAMI HORROR

When I am deejaying I get all kinds of questions, like, “What kind of turntables are these?” or, “How do you get your music?”. The first one is easy, 99.9 percent of all the venues I’ve played at have technics. It meets the industry standards. Then I think about the second question and there’s no one answer. Two nights ago, I couldn’t fall asleep right away, so I started browsing through my instagram feed and came across a flyer for a “Chromeo” show in New Orleans. Apparently, there’s a festival there I haven’t heard of called BUKU. As I am going through the lineup, on top of “Chromeo” I see “Phantogram” and I get super stoked. The list goes on and on: “Ellie Goulding”, “David Guetta”, “Zedd”, just to mention a few. Then I see something I hadn’t heard before, it’s called “Miami Horror”. I said to myself, “I like Miami and I like Horror, I think this is going to kill!” I opened yet another Safari window to search for this “Miami Horror” thing. It became my new obsession! Mixing disco with a New York twist (even though, they’re not from New York or Miami, but from Australia), and vocals that sounds like “The Human League”, the sounds of Miami Horror inspire fun, party and happiness, not the typical emo sound that comes with indie electronica. Needless to say, these four guys from Melbourne have me having a dance party by myself in my living room for the last 48 hours! I can’t wait to play them this week at my club!
