Cowboy Mouth: A Play by Sam Shepard & Patti Smith

Girl Trip is excited to present our first play! Cowboy Mouth, a one act play by Sam Shepard and Patti Smith, is playing March 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st at Sacred Fools Theatre in Hollywood. Buy your tickets today!

Sam Shepard and Patti Smith co-wrote Cowboy Mouth while living together at the Chelsea Hotel in 1971. Passing a typewriter back and forth, they crafted a play that is both inspiring and a cautionary tale about using art as deliverance from our own flaws, relating to someone’s potential instead of who they are, and trying to build that person strong enough to love us and save us.

Ultimately, Cowboy Mouth stamps the importance of taking responsibility for our own creativity. We are our own rock and roll saviors by living an authentic life which cannot be escaped from, and concretizing our unique works in the world, flaws and all.
Cowboy Mouth is especially timely now as women globally unite, celebrate and help each other. We are already empowered, and rather than abandoning our own work by pouring our creativity into someone else’s career with the hopes they can save us or give us permission, we feed our own artistic journeys, lay down tangible projects, and change the world.
